Jeep JK CarPlay radio review: my favorite modern upgrade

CarPlay and Android Auto make an older JK feel relevant again. Maps, music, calls, and phone controls move onto a screen that changes the dashboard every time I drive.

The short verdict

Changes the whole Jeep

My favorite JK upgrade. It changes the whole cabin and modernizes the part of the Jeep I interact with on every drive.

Owner note

Why this one matters more than a cosmetic mod

The JK itself still has plenty of personality; the original infotainment is what makes the cabin feel dated. Adding CarPlay and Android Auto brings the functions I use every day—navigation, music, calls, and phone integration—into one familiar interface.

Install reality

Where the project grows

The head unit portion was relatively friendly. Routing and connecting a backup camera is where the job changes from a quick radio swap into an actual wiring project. Planning the cable route before taking the dash apart helps keep the work controlled.

The honest caveat

What I am—and am not—rating

My verdict is about the interface, daily usefulness, and the way the screen updates the cabin. I did not record instrumented audio-quality measurements or a timed installation, so I am not inventing either number.

Verified vehicle

Fitment I can personally confirm

The screen shown is installed in my Wrangler JK dashboard. Harnesses, factory amplifiers, steering-wheel controls, cameras, and trim can change the job, so match the current package to your exact year and audio configuration.

The good

Why it is my favorite upgrade

  • CarPlay and Android Auto in an older JK
  • Modern navigation, music, and call controls
  • Large visible change to the cabin
  • Useful on every drive

Know first

What to know first

  • Backup-camera wiring adds real project time
  • Compatibility depends on the Jeep’s audio configuration
  • No instrumented sound-quality comparison
  • The large screen is a deliberate non-factory look

Final answer

Would I buy it again?

Yes. Of all these smaller JK upgrades, this is the one that most changes how old the Jeep feels from the driver’s seat.
